I am South African, and would like to travel more, but don’t know which country I can go, without going back to South Africa to obtain a visa. If possible a country where I can work, to earn cash for further traveling plans

The world’s your oyster, buddy. I don’t think coming back here has anything to do with getting visas. You have to get a visa from the embassy of the country you want to go to, and probably every country has an embassy or representative in London. Ask them. As for jobs, always a problem. For a start, one possibility is to try to aim for some place that gets lots of English-speaking tourists (unless you can speak some foreign language), then in the tourist season you might be able to get some kind of job waitering or something like that. Don’t hurry back here.
as the other guy said -you need to get the visa in the country you are leaving from. I have been in the UK -got a visa to work here. I needed a visa for Switzerland and went back to SA before that for a holiday. I tried to get the visa for Switzerland in Cape Town, but they wouldn’t let me get it and said I had to apply in England since I was leaving from there. I know it’s difficult to get a visa to live and work in the UK, but it is a good base to travel from. Usually for getting visa, they want to know that you are going back to a job and you need proof of this….so it’s a tricky one if you not working -but you can probably get around it.
If you were going on a trip from SA to Europe, but not planning to work there, you could get a Schengen Visa for 1 country -the one you first enter through (France is one of the easier ones to get it through) and get a multiply entry one. Then you have access to all the Schengen States. I think it visa is valid for 3 months. Here’s a helpful website to see what the visa requirement are: http://www.uk.cibt.com
I hope things work out for you
This is a great website which lists all the countries that a South African passport holder doesn’t require a visa to enter, http://www.rainbownation.com/visa/index.asp .
