Beach Vacations…?

My best friend and I are planning to take a girls trip this winter sometime in March. It will be both be our 1st time going anywhere tropical. We are thinking either Punta Cana (dominican republic) or Mayan Riviera (mexico) because they have white sand beaches, and aqua water. We also don’t want to pay too much, trying to stay under the $2500 mark.
We don’t want anything too busy or Americanized. We still want some adventure, where we can go exploring, and find secluded beaches, etc…

Any suggestions on where we should go? Belize is also an option, I heard it was pretty cheap, anyone know?
