How Can I Meet Fellow Adventure Travelers?
Guest Blog
As the Beatles tell us, we get by with a little help from our friends. This is especially true with adventure travel. Veteran travelers can often be one of your most important resources for learning about lesser-known but wonderful destinations, for providing you with experiential advice about what to do and what to avoid when you’re on your trip, and for helping you to find the best deals on airfare, equipment, and other important travel costs. So you’ll want to know how to meet fellow adventure travelers –and we’ll provide you with a few tips to point you in the right direction.
But even your fellow travelers can’t tell you everything: they have their own trips to plan and take, after all! For comprehensive information about adventure travel, including strategies for choosing equipment, the types of adventure travel, and some destination reviews, you’d do well to check out “Earth Trek: Everything A Novice Traveler Should Know”, available for purchase and download at our travel and trekking guide .
Local Clubs
Often, cities have clubs and societies designed for travelers and outdoor types to meet and exchange stories about their adventures. Take a look in your phone book, ask around, or look for ads at local sporting goods and military surplus stores or travel agencies. You might also contact a city official who works with community organizations; some travel-centric clubs have partnerships with local government in order to provide funding and support for club events.
Personal Networking
More people are interested in travel than you might believe. Ask your friends and family members if they know any travelers at work or college, and keep an ear well open at parties, events, or even the grocery store. If you hear someone talking about their most recent trip or about travel-related topics, try striking up a conversation: if you can meet just one traveler, chances are that he or she will introduce you to many more.
Travel Forums and Websites
There are countless websites and online forums devoted to travel topics. Join a few forums and newsgroups and ask any questions you might have, or search the forum archives in order to learn about a few tips or destinations that you might not know about yet. Try to search once or twice a week for new travel websites. Some websites post directories of local travelers to help promote group trips, equipment sharing, or simple fellowship: take advantage of these and contact travelers that live in your area.

World Wide Travel
Guest Blog
It’s only natural for human beings to explore. We get excited at the thought of seeing new places, and tasting foreign cuisines. When it comes down to it, we just want to know everything the world has to offer. And this is why we all harbor an interest in world wide travel. Now I’m not saying that every single person will at some point take it upon themselves to venture out across the oceans and explore foreign lands. Many will not. However, there are many of us that demand on seeing certain cities, and countries, regardless of how far off they are. The trick is making the dream a reality.
If there was only one place on this earth you could visit, what would it be? No wait; let me guess. Probably the most cliche hot spots I can think of are France, Italy, Australia, Canada, Africa, England, and the USA, if you don’t already reside here. These are what world wide travel is all about. Pop open a search engine on the Internet and punch in any of these countries. You’ll be flooded with world wide travel deals and specials galore. Airlines and lodging services know where people are headed, or at least where they prefer to travel to. It’s sounds kind of funny, but when I hear my family members discuss traveling outside of the country, they routinely mention Canada, Paris, Rome, Venice, and Australia. What a shocker! Pretty much the same places every other American wishes to visit.
Traveling, especially world wide travel, is nothing to be taken lightly these days. As you’ve surely seen on the world news time and time again, we’re constantly at war. Therefore it’s rather difficult to tell what regions are completely safe to visit, and if now is a prudent time to leave your home country at all. There’s no doubt we have to be cautious when visiting foreign lands. Furthermore, you should remind yourself that just because you’re stoked about seeing a far-off country, doesn’t mean that the locals there are excited about seeing you. In my experience with world wide travel, foreigners want our money, but not typically our company. All the more reason to take precautions while visiting. Travel safe and plan ahead.

Cross Country Travel
Guest Article:
Whether you are taking cross country motorcycle tours, or just a trip down to grandma’s house in Florida, traveling across the country can be a big adventure. In my life, I have taken dozens of cross country travel trips, and each one has been different. When I was in college, it was a pretty casual thing. We would clamber into my friend’s beaten up old Ford, head out, deciding where we were going on the way there. That was it. Looking back on it, it seems foolish. So many things could have gone wrong after all, and we took no precautions in our planning. Yet back then, we felt carefree. Cross country traveling was just a way to unwind from the semester, and we would do it every chance we had.
Nowadays, my cross country travels have become a little bit more sophisticated. You see, I am currently employed as a travel writer, and my cross country road trips give me ample fodder for my books. I was actually inspired to take up this career by a road trip that went wrong. A travel book that we were using seemed to be up to date, but it actually had some bad information. There were whole towns that were listed in the cross country travel guide that in fact didn’t exist. This is a problem when you are running low on fuel and you expect one of those towns ahead. After spending the night in the wilderness, camped out in our broken down car on the side of the road, me and my buddy decided we would do everything we could to help stop this from happening to other people. I became a travel writer, he became a state trooper.
Nowadays, cross country travel information is better than ever before. With satellite imaging and Google maps, online travel guides, and all of the other sources of information on the Internet, there are more resources than ever before. Of course, some of these are better than others. In my opinion, the best resources for cross country travel are local guides and printed books. Most cities will have an online website that will provide you with some reliable information about what is there. For their part, the reputable travel guides will give you some good general information about the regions your cross country travel takes you through. It is always best to consult more than one source of information, but what happened to me all those years ago is a rare events nowadays.
