Can I bring alcohol back into the US from another country if I am a minor?
I'm going to S. Africa and would like to bring my friend back a bottle of wine, unfortunately I am only 20 (so close to 21 too).
You could, and as Pilsner man suggest, put it in you baggage. It might pass muster at customs, but as soon as you go through the door from customs into the terminal you are in violation of the law and are subject to the ramifications of doing so. Is it worth the risk? Only you can answer that.
Is it safe to walk alone through upscale Cape Town suburbs like Newlands and Tokai during the day?

I would say no, but that's just me!

ME!!
No you cannot, you best bet is to have it shipped. Even if you are 21 they still could take it away in customs.

Okay, here's the thing about that.
You might be able to get it past customs, but if you can't they will seize it from you. However, if there is someone 21 or older in your traveling party, they will allow you to bring it back. It might just be easier to get it shipped to the states.

This happened when I traveled to France on a school trip. A student brought a bottle of wine for his dad. Customs got him, but my teacher agreed to take it from him.
Nope. you have to be twenty one. i'm nineteen and everytime i go to mexico i have to sneak back the bottles

Just pack it up in your suitcase in a wine shipping container.
My daughter just brought me two bottles from Germany on Monday, wrapped in paper.
Some of these folks are clueless and have probably never traveled internationally.

I put 1 very large OPENED bottle of Absinthe in my suitcase, and 3 glasses, wrapped up.
(only took a few swigs out of the bottle, then tightened it back up)
And put 1 unopened beer in my carry-on.
Both passed thru customs…NO PROBLEM.
They went thru my suitcase…i could tell, but they never touched my bottle of Absinthe, hehe, it took up 1/4 of my damn suitcase too!
I also brought an unopened bottle of vodka on my carry on and 2 beers on my way TO germany….they NEVER searched it or said anything.
As far as I know, as long as the bottle is UNOPENED, corked and sealed, they CANNOT legally seize it, unless they suspect something fishy about it.
I was 22 at the time, however they WONT know the difference between a suitcase with alcohol that belongs to a minor or an of-age person…..its just a suitcase.
As long as it doesn't ring any alarms bells, it will pass thru.
This was in 2004…..things may have changed by now.
