What is the climate of the Swiss Alps?

I am looking to take a trip to Switzerland and am wondering what the climate of the Swiss Alps is in the winter, spring, summer and fall as I would also like to do some snowboarding. Thanks for any help you can offer :)

I believe it's called "alpine". Colder than anywhere lower, because when you get into higher elevations, the temperature goes down (law of nature…heat dissipates, as you go higher – the air expands and becomes thinner…)

I live in the Colorado Rockies, pretty high up. We NEVER put away our winter coats in the summer. They may need to be pulled out at any time. Winter times, it can get below zero for up to two weeks at a time, and never go above zero. Often 30 below overnight for a week or so. (this is F.) In the summer, it usually doesn't get above 80, and drops to around freezing almost every night. I would expect similar temperatures in Switzerland. Maybe a little different. Bring LOTS of warm sweaters and t-necks for the winter, and always have a sweater or sweatshirt available in the summertime.

Snowboarding is going to be different there than in the US. Their laws are entirely different, which is reflected in how the lifts run, etc. It shouldbe quite an adventure.

Hiking is really big there for summertime, and the dairy products and chocolate (of course) are the best in the world!!! I have never lived there, (just visited…I think it was the coldest summer on record…all of Europe was chilly.) because I would just put on WAY too much weight!

How is South Africa a 1st world country, extremely civilized, and the rest of Africa is not?

Even the 2 countries that are basically INSIDE of South Africa – Lesotho and Swaziland – are uncivilized.

South Africa also has equal rights for LGBT, which is a huge step, while the rest of Africa basically bans homosexuality and many countries use the death penalty against homosexuals.

How did South Africa seemingly rapidly industrialize compared to the rest of Africa?
There's not even any "civilized" countries ANYWHERE around them.

Well cape town was the first colony the British had in Africa, and it worked hard to keep it and develop it as it was a key port town. So Britain poured a lot of effort into stabilising it and industrialising it, and formed a country that could look after itself, so when it declared independence it could stand on it's own two feet, whereas other African colony's asked for independence when they had only just started with government, and therfore encountered corruption amongst other problems.

Since the 1950's, South Africa has been able to capatalise on it's huge diamond mine resources to provide huge industrialisation.

Lesotho and Swaziland are basically the lands granted to tribes of South Africa, but are civilised; they have good morals, were opposed to apartheid, and have strong foriegn relations.

South Africa only got equal rights after apartheid, the seperation of Whites and Blacks for a very long time, till Mandela sorted it out, and since then they've been all for eqality so not to cause another form of apartheid.

Surrounding countries are civilised and were stable, but their governments scewed them over, for example Mugabe destroyed the farming sector in Zimbabwe, driving them to ruin. 10 years ago they were doing fine.

Where can I get the cheapest airfare from Chicago to Cebu, philippines?

Travelling to Cebu early next year to visit family and friends, no definite date yet, just looking for a good price for airfare.

Try www.wholesale-fares.com. They specialize in international travel. I would avoid late January – early February since plane tickets are more expensive due to people flying home for lunar new year.

What are the benefits of national parks?

I wanted to know if their are any certain reasons as to why we preserve national parks, other than the fact that they are beautiful and relaxing. Does anyone have any ideas?

If we didn't have national parks, man would be allowed to build over ALL the land.

If man built building ALL over the land, there would be no more room for nature. No room for trees, no room for animals, just a bunch of buildings all over the place.

With no trees… and no animals? Well…. we'd all die.

We need national parks for survival, nature is an integral part of our lives, and we need to preserve as much as it as possible in order to keep the cycle of life flowing.

World’s Fastest Zip Line

I found this while vacationing in South Africa. It claims to be the world’s fastest, highest, longest, steepest zip line. The specs are in the video. It was a lot of fun and not too scary. Except when you are looking down from the top of the mountain.
